The Art of the Critic (Short Film)
| Status: | Now Playing |
| Production Dates: | Aug 25 2001 - Aug 30 2001 |
| Role: | "Fabian Terse" (Supporting) - Intense Australian modern artist |
A very professional outfit came together under the direction of BAFTA winning film maker, Dom Shaw, to make this 15 minute short.
Filmed on Super 16mm, The Art of the Critic is a sly take on the pomposity and irreverence of modern art world critics, in a world of increasingly tenuous works of art.
I played a crazed Australian artist, Fabian Terse, who ingests only white and paints only black. Opening shot of Fabian crouched on a 12'x12' canvas 'ingesting' a 4 foot long line of white powder paint. A great character to play and a great scene to watch out for.
Premiered at the Commonwealth Film Festival in Summer 2002, the Worldwide Rights have recently been sold to BritShorts.com and is still doing well on the festival circuit. Just shown at Toronto Comedy Short Film Fest.

Director: Dom Shaw “Jonathan balanced a fine comedy sensibility by playing a comic part
'straight'. Lesser talents can squeeze the gag and lose credibility by
giving 'comedy' performances. It's a lot funnier when the character is
perceived to be taking themselves very seriously. A fine performance.”
